GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ FEMA approved a Federal Disaster Declaration on June 9 for public assistance after storms hit Springfield and six Missouri counties on April 29. The funding will help repair roads, water control systems, and public buildings—excluding individual assistance for households. KY3
- ➤ Governor Mike Kehoe signed Senate Bill 81 to boost public safety statewide—this law expands background checks, updates fireworks regulations, and supports law enforcement measures. The legislation also extends benefits for law enforcement spouses and families of fallen officers—ensuring improved licensing and protections for childhood abuse victims. KY3
- ➤ Springfield-Branson National Airport will start several major construction projects this summer—replacing 93,000 square feet of worn carpet and tile with durable terrazzo flooring in phases beginning by August. The airport will also add automated exit lanes this fall, replace five outdated jet bridges with federal funds, expand the terminal apron, and enlarge the short-term parking lot by spring 2026 as part of nearly $35 million in improvements.
