ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ James Snetselaar, 54, died on June 6 from injuries after a house fire that started on May 30 on the 800 block of South Delaware Avenue—firefighters rescued a woman from the home, and investigators say the fire was accidental because the property lacked working smoke alarms. KY3
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Monsta Farms, LLC—Springfield's first state-approved marijuana micro-cultivator—is setting up a small grow space near Glenstone Avenue and Division Street after leasing a warehouse. The company will begin operations when it receives clearance from the Missouri Department of Health—expected between summer and fall—and plans to produce boutique cannabis products for micro-dispensaries. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Staff and vendors are setting up at the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds for the Red Angus Youth Expo, which educates local youth about agriculture from June 8-13. The event expects hundreds of visitors from the United States and abroad, with roughly 400 animals entered and nearly 200 exhibitors. OzarksFirst.com
- ➤ Construction on Pipkin Middle School is underway in Springfield after the school closed on the 8.86-acre property from the Assemblies of God on January 21 and funded the $53 million project through Proposition S bonds — the board approved Crossland's bid to finish the project in 2027. KY3
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Springfield-area first responders and the Community Blood Center of the Ozarks will host the Bleed Greene Blood Drive this Friday at 220 W Plainview Road from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Donors will receive a limited edition Bleed Greene t-shirt, a voucher for a pint of Hiland Ice Cream, and a voucher for two Springfield Cardinals tickets (subject to supply) while $10 per donation is given to the Greene County 100 Club. - ➤ Health inspectors reviewed Springfield restaurants from June 2–6 and found that most met food safety rules with only a few minor violations, such as a blocked hand washing sink and utensil debris, which were corrected on site – officials provided on-site education to address each issue.
