- ➤ Foster kids from Greene County participated in the fourth annual Hunt for Independence on May 30 at The Shrine Mosque, where they learned skills for buying cars, transferring titles, paying taxes, and more. The event, hosted by the Greene County Juvenile Center and partners including Cox College, allowed day-of registration for foster and adopted youth ages 14 to 20 (with a parent or guardian present) and included prizes for achievements. - ➤ Police officers rescued a small fawn stuck in an empty pool in Springfield last week—bodycam footage shows them carefully lifting the animal as its mother deer looked on. KY3
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ On May 29th, a 2008 Mercury Mariner carrying three Rogersville teens was struck on Highway 60 by a semi-truck—two passengers were pronounced dead at 11:45 p.m. while the 17-year-old driver was taken to Cox South Hospital with moderate injuries. Springfield Daily Citizen
- ➤ Police responded at about 10 a.m. Friday at the intersection of East Republic Road and Lone Pine Avenue when a dump truck lost control and drove into a ditch—two tow trucks cleared the scene while the driver suffered no injuries. KY3

- ➤ Families seeking indoor summer fun can visit the Discovery Center downtown Springfield, which offers hands-on learning with a new salamander exhibit & Summer of Science camp sessions for kids. - ➤ Springfield state Rep. Melanie Stinnett launched her campaign for the Missouri Senate seat on May 29 in Springfield, saying she wants to bring real solutions to local families. - ➤ City Utilities reported that the April 29 storm—Springfield’s most destructive weather event since 2007—caused damage estimated between $9 million and $11 million and left 62,000 customers without power.
