- ➤ Springfield’s Rescue One said that Memorial Day weekend was very hard as it cared for about 35 sick kittens in the hospital and more than 20 other animals; workers said resources ran low amid rising sickness. The non-profit asks for help by accepting cardboard trays that are 1.5 inches or taller at 2000 South Stewart Ave.—They hope this aid will improve care for the animals. KY3
- ➤ On May 28, nearly 2,000 people welcomed 81 veterans returning from an Honor Flight of the Ozarks trip at Springfield-Branson National Airport— the airport fire department performed a water cannon salute forming a rainbow arch over the plane before 8 p.m. Springfield News-Leader
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Traffic on I-44 is backed up for several miles today after a multi-vehicle crash two miles northeast of Strafford involved two tractor-trailer units and two other vehicles—only minor injuries were reported while traffic was reduced to one westbound lane. OzarksFirst.com
- ➤ Greene County deputies were unharmed when a speeding car hit one of their patrol cars on I-44 east of West Bypass during a crash investigation — the driver was taken to the hospital for evaluation, and the incident reminds drivers to move over for emergency vehicles. OzarksFirst.com
- ➤ Two teenagers from Rogersville died in a crash with a semi-truck on U.S. 60 near Rogersville Thursday night; the SUV driver, a 17-year-old girl, was taken to a Springfield hospital with moderate injuries while the truck driver was unharmed. KY3

- ➤ Business owners in west Springfield remain uncertain as work to demolish and replace the W. Sunshine bridge, originally set to begin in early March, has stalled. - ➤ A Springfield man is charged with felony child endangerment after a motorcycle crash on Aug. 11 — his speeding, impaired motorcycle struck a car backing out and sent an 11-year-old passenger airborne, leaving her with a broken femur and head injury. OzarksFirst.com
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ A new series of harm reduction boxes is being installed around the Ozarks by the Aids Project of the Ozarks—these boxes provide supplies like naloxone, fentanyl test strips, and an injection version of the medication to help in overdose emergencies. The program, which began a year and a half ago, uses community feedback to choose its locations. KY3

- ➤ Starting June 1, teenagers aged 14 to 19 in Springfield will be able to use free gym memberships at Planet Fitness until August 31 when they pre-register online or sign up in person with parental consent if under 18 + the program offers free fitness classes through the PE@PF program and requires downloading the Planet Fitness app. Springfield News-Leader
