COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The owners of ReeRee the Chihuahua say the pet disappeared a few weeks ago in south Springfield and was last seen near Drury University; they offer a reward for anyone who helps bring the dog home.  KY3
  • Three newborn Chacoan peccaries are frolicking at Dickerson Park Zoo. They were born this weekend to parents Relish and Flash (part of the species survival plan by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums) to help protect this endangered animal.  KY3

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • After lightning struck a gas line at a Greene County home in Brookline last week, a resident quickly turned off the gas & doused the flames to limit damage, officials said while urging neighbors to check their smoke alarms.  KY3

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Swim lessons are in high demand this summer as families struggle to enroll before pool season begins; Diventures is monitoring fill rates in Springfield while local pools schedule sessions for young swimmers.  KY3

SPORTS NEWS

  • Marshfield Blue Jays will play a Class 5 playoff series against the Willard Tigers starting Friday for a chance to reach the Final Four, as coach William Pate and Chris Neyenhouse share their strategy & preparations for the run.  KY3
  • Missouri State University baseball star Mark Bailey, a former MLB catcher with the Astros and Giants, died at 64 after battling cancer. Springfield remembers him for his strong local ties (he always called Springfield home) and his lasting impact on the game.  KY3
  • Held hitless for seven innings, the Brewers rallied in the eighth with three hits and two runs to edge the Cardinals 2-1 on Wednesday (enhancing their NL Central lead).  KY3
  • After a November water leak closed its handball courts, Missouri State University moved its team to practice at the Hammons Student Center. Two courts there will be cleared for immediate use while renovation plans based on the athletic master plan (and donations) guide future upgrades.  Springfield Daily Citizen
