- ➤ Employees at Springfield-Branson National Airport said Memorial Day weekend was busy with heavy travel despite weekend rain, and travelers experienced minor turbulence and delays. More delays are expected tonight—staff noted that flight schedules remain disrupted. KY3
- ➤ Harriet Daniels, a 104-year-old World War II veteran from Aurora who served with the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps, recalled her communications work during the war, including sending teletype messages from Italy and North Africa. She was recently honored in Oklahoma with a key to the city—highlighting moments like when a parachute helped make her wedding dress—while she now lives near her son. KY3
- ➤ Two services in Springfield on Memorial Day morning honored veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice. The Sons of the American Revolution held a ceremony at Springfield National Cemetery — featuring a flag parade, black powder musket salute, and taps by the 135th Air National Guard — while the Missouri Veterans Cemetery read the names of fallen soldiers from the Civil War to the Iraq War. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Springfield Public Schools finished six gymnasiums that double as storm shelters at Cowden and Holland, which bring the total to 20 available for students and local families during severe weather. - ➤ Heavy rains damaged Riverside Road in Ozark, so officials closed the road as floodwater caused the pavement to crumble — the Ozark Special Road District said repairs needing dry weather may take at least 2 weeks, and commuters must find new routes. KY3
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Public pools in Springfield are open for the unofficial start of summer and city officials test them to make sure the water is clean and safe—using twice-daily checks at city pools and extra tests at apartment, hotel, and neighborhood pools. Springfield-Greene County Health Department inspectors will test every public and semi-public pool twice before Labor Day so that any problems are fixed promptly. KY3
