- ➤ The Springfield-Greene County Park Board will open public pools for Memorial Day weekend with Meador and Westport available Saturday, May 24 and McGee-McGregor, Fassnight and Silver Springs available Sunday while Grant Beach remains closed due to storm damage — free splash pads across town include a new one at McCauley Park that opens today from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Springfield News-Leader
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ The Greene County Sheriff's Office investigated human remains found Wednesday at a homeless encampment at the intersection of Farm Road 123 and W. Junction Street—detectives are processing evidence and urging anyone with information to call 417-829-6230. KY3
- ➤ Bruce Long, 63, was indicted and arrested in Clarke County, Iowa for second-degree murder in connection with the death of his nephew, Russell Long, whose remains were found in Bois D’Arc in June 2021 after he went missing in April 2021 and he is now held without bond at Greene County Jail. - ➤ Johnny Morris’ Wonders of Wildlife National Museum and Aquarium in Springfield was voted America’s Best Aquarium for the seventh time since its opening in 2017, according to USA Today’s Reader’s Choice Awards. The museum will add a replica of Ken Fraser’s All Tackle IGFA Atlantic bluefin tuna — weighing nearly 1,500 pounds — to its exhibits to celebrate the honor. KY3
