COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Chadwick Flyer Trail Bridge has opened today, turning an old rail line into miles of connected trails for walkers and cyclists between Springfield and Ozark. Additional trail spurs will extend the path to nearby communities (Nixa, Chadwick, and Bolivar) in the coming months.  KY3
  • Today is National Senior Fraud Awareness Day as experts warn older residents about scams. The FBI reports seniors lose billions annually and advise trusted caregivers to monitor financial activity — a step to help protect the community.  KY3
  • Yesterday at 10 a.m., Ozark held a ribbon cutting for its new pedestrian overpass as part of the Chadwick Flyer Trail project that converts an old railway corridor into miles of trails connecting Springfield to Ozark & beyond. Guests parked at The OC on Jackson Street at the event.  KY3

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Local lawn care companies are raising prices in the Ozarks to offset higher fuel costs during their busy season. Firms like T & F Tree and Lawn and J & J Lawn Care have added temporary fees that will drop when gas prices fall.  KY3

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Missouri State University trained over 1,000 law enforcement officers in active shooter response through the ALERRT program with help from the Department of Public Safety and the ALERRT Center. The training reached officers in 153 agencies and will continue to boost emergency readiness.  Springfield News-Leader

  • Chef Dyllan Dale from Wild Foods presents a recipe for Lemon (Mint) Radish Salad that combines sliced radishes, kale, fresh mint, lemon zest, olive oil, salt and black pepper. The dish should sit for 5 to 10 minutes to let the flavors blend, offering a bright option for spring meals.  KY3

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Demolition work began yesterday at 3535 S. Lone Pine Ave in Galloway, tearing down parts of a nearly 100-year-old building amid longstanding controversy; residents and local business owners watched heavy equipment and temporary fencing mark the property — future redevelopment plans remain unannounced.  Springfield News-Leader
  • Springfield architecture firm N·FORM Architecture began renovating two historic Commercial Street buildings (once hosting Cotton’s Bar) for its new headquarters. The firm plans to move in early 2027 after tax credits helped support over $1 million in renovation costs.  Springfield Daily Citizen
  • Developer Mitchell Jenkins began demolishing the long-contested property at 3535 S. Lone Pine Ave on Thursday, May 14, with an excavator and dump truck on site after receiving a wrecking permit.
