  • After a mayoral proclamation, May 10 was declared Neighborhood Youth Sports Day in Springfield as families gathered at Grant Beach Park to enjoy the 18th season of the local sports league — which offers soccer, flag football, and baseball for just $10 per child — and celebrate community unity.  OzarksFirst.com

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On May 10, a bicyclist died near Broadmoor Street and Glenstone Avenue when 78-year-old Ann Schonert turned right in her 2012 Mazda 3—Springfield Police said the investigation is ongoing.  Springfield Daily Citizen

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Springfield Police Department is offering a free one-day motorcycle safety course called Share the Road on May 17 to help riders improve their skills—applications must be received by noon on May 15 from those with a valid motorcycle endorsement and a street-legal motorcycle.  KY3
  • State Rep. Betsy Fogle will run for the vacant state Senate seat in 2026 when Lincoln Hough retires, and she said her campaign will focus on lowering living costs, making streets safer, and improving access to health care and schools for Springfield families.  Springfield Daily Citizen

HEALTH NEWS

  • The FDA warned people not to buy or use products containing tianeptine—an opioid called gas station heroin because it is found in dietary supplements like Tianaa, Zaza, Neptune’s Fix, Pegasus and TD Red. A Missouri House bill to restrict the drug failed, and health experts explained that high doses may lead to confusion, dizziness and even death.  KY3
