COMMUNITY NEWS

  • After last week’s power outage canceled the first event, Gigs in the Garden returned to Nathanael Green Park for Mother’s Day with performances by Maddi Warren and Alli Butler. The Sister Cities Association will host National Dulcimer Champs and Friends next Sunday at 2 p.m. + a rescheduled May 4 show is planned for October.  KY3

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Springfield flower shops reported record Mother’s Day orders as high demand forced one owner to close her website and led some to raise prices due to tariffs on imported blooms—owner Cherrelle Hitchcock said sales doubled compared to Valentine’s Day. Local shops have managed to avoid rising costs for locally sourced flowers.  KY3

CULTURE NEWS

  • Larry Lee, a founding member of the Ozark Mountain Daredevils, died Sunday when his band announced his loss; he was 78 (he co-wrote the hit Jackie Blue and served four years in the Navy).  KY3

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Alliance for Healthcare Education held its first pinning ceremony for 10 students who completed the CNA program (part of the Ozarks Tech Alliance Middle College program) to help ease local healthcare shortages. The partnership with CoxHealth, Missouri State University, Ozarks Tech, and Springfield Public Schools will expand its programs in fall.  Springfield News-Leader
