ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A male bicyclist died after a crash with a car Saturday early afternoon near Hazelwood Cemetery on Glenstone Avenue—police said an out-of-county ambulance stopped for immediate aid and investigators closed a lane to clear the scene.  KY3

CRIME NEWS

  • A Springfield bicyclist, 43 year old Jennifer Collier, died after a May 4 crash on College Street when she attempted to cross West Bypass and was struck by a 67 year old driver, William Davis, with the Greene County Medical Examiner confirming her death on May 9 (Springfield Police Department is investigating the incident).  Springfield Daily Citizen

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Missouri State University awarded six faculty & staff members the Board of Governors’ Award for Excellence in Public Affairs, with each recipient receiving $1,500 to support research or professional development. The honor recognizes their commitment to advancing the university's public affairs mission.  Springfield News-Leader
  • Missouri State University voted on May 8 to add former employees Don Simpson and Kathy Davis to its Wall of Fame as a way to honor their 66 years together of work at the school; their names will join 147 others on the wall outside the Plaster Student Union Grand Ballroom. A formal induction ceremony is planned for fall — a scheduled event to recognize their contributions.  Springfield News-Leader

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The USDA is offering home repair aid to low-income seniors in rural Greene County after the April 29 storms. Eligible homeowners (62 or older) may get a grant up to $10,000 or a low-interest loan up to $40,000 (if they meet income limits) for essential repairs like tree removal, roof fixes and electrical work.  KY3

  • Missouri State’s coaches trusted Canadian prospect Michael Yusypchuk (despite a few rough outings recently) as he pitched on Saturday at Hammons Field in a crucial league series.
