- ➤ Local residents are invited to leave a bag of nonperishable food by their mailboxes on Saturday, May 10 when postal workers will collect donations for the 33rd Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive organized by the National Association of Letter Carriers—supported by local charities like Ozarks Food Harvest to help families facing rising grocery costs. - ➤ A Springfield man was arrested on May 1 after he and two others allegedly tricked a victim into letting them tie him to a bed—then beat and robbed him, leaving him with serious injuries; 19-year-old Nathaniel Aiden Pettet now faces charges of first-degree robbery, assault, and kidnapping with a bond hearing set for May 21. - ➤ Starting May 13, FEMA—together with state and local officials—will begin damage assessments in Greene, Barry, Lawrence, McDonald, Newton, and Washington counties to see if federal funds will be available for repairing storm-damaged roads and bridges.
