COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A white van delivered 10 beagles from Ridglan Farms to Rescue One just after 7:00 p.m. Wednesday. The arrival is part of a nationwide effort to rehome research dogs, and local foster families have already submitted multiple applications.  Springfield Daily Citizen
  • Students at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton pedaled around the school today to raise nearly $4,000 for a local St. Jude patient named Ruby. Teachers noted that even pre-K children donated and sold handmade bracelets to support the cause.  KY3
  • The National Association of Letter Carriers will hold its 34th annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive on May 9, inviting residents in southwest Missouri to leave nonperishable food by their mailboxes for collection by carriers to support 270 community charities (Ozarks Food Harvest).  KY3

BUSINESS NEWS

  • At Home Real Estate Services won the 2026 W. Curtis Strube Small Business Award from the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce after steady, community-rooted growth since its founding in 2007. The ceremony on May 6 at the Oasis Hotel and Convention Center honored 300 local business leaders.  Springfield Daily Citizen

CULTURE NEWS

  • Ozarks Public Television will premiere the documentary Lost and Found on Route 66 at 8 p.m. May 11 — the film explores the highway’s history, cultural impact and efforts to revitalize it — with re-airings May 12, May 14, and May 21 and a stream on May 24.  Springfield News-Leader
  • Ozarks Alive launched the Rock Picking Awards to honor local individuals and groups preserving the Ozarks' cultural traditions. Nominations remain open until June 15, and winners will be celebrated in November at Hatch Auditorium at the Library Center in Springfield.  Springfield News-Leader

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Missouri State University hired a new CFO, Eric Schick, to steer its finances amid a tough 2026-27 budget that foregoes raises for 3,700 employees. The board met yesterday (at the Plaster Student Union) and will finalize recommendations at its June meeting.  Springfield Daily Citizen

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Greene County officials ask residents to report storm damage to their local emergency management agency. The office has received over 3,500 reports, including 1,300 with home damage, to help build a case for a federal disaster declaration.  KY3
  • MoDOT is holding a virtual meeting from May 18 to June 1 to discuss plans to rehabilitate the Route 60 bridges in Fordland. Construction will begin spring 2027 and affect traffic with one lane each way, so drivers should plan alternate routes (for information, contact MoDOT’s Southwest District Office).  Springfield News-Leader

HEALTH NEWS

  • With Mother’s Day approaching, Springfield’s Lost and Found Grief Center advises those facing loss to set boundaries and practice self-care—such as taking walks or quiet breaks—to manage mixed feelings.
