- ➤ The Springfield-Greene County Library District Friends of the Library held a book sale from April 30 through May 4 that generated $204,739.85 and became the fourth highest profit sale to date—volunteers worked hard despite a preview night canceled by a power outage from April 29 storms. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Michael Cortez Wallace, 35, pleaded guilty to first-degree assault for knocking a security guard unconscious at the downtown Park Central Branch Library last April—he was sentenced on May 6 to 12 years in prison—and the guard was taken to the emergency room. Springfield Daily Citizen
- ➤ On May 5, a Springfield federal court concluded a brief trial when 65-year-old former U.S. Army Reservist John Michael Bradley abruptly halted proceedings to plead guilty to charges of aggravated sexual assault of a minor and illicit sexual conduct during his deployment in Honduras in 2005 and 2006+ he now faces a sentence of at least 30 years in prison. - ➤ U.S. District Court Judge M. Douglas Harpool said Missouri did not fix long call wait times that stopped eligible residents from getting SNAP help. He ordered the state to meet rules—such as cutting wait times to 20 minutes for 90% of calls—and make big improvements within six months. Springfield Daily Citizen
