COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Visit Springfield has opened a new visitor center on Park Central just east of the Square, in time for Route 66’s 100th birthday + the center provides information on local attractions for both residents and travelers.  KY3
  • Rescue One volunteers drove 1,200 miles from Springfield to retrieve 1,500 dogs rescued from a controversial breeding facility in Wisconsin. Ten dogs will begin foster care while the remainder will be placed in shelters, ensuring all animals are safe by the end of today.  KY3

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Roofing companies are still handling thousands of calls after last Tuesday’s hailstorm damaged roofs from Monett to Springfield (homeowners are urged to get multiple estimates as repairs may not begin until next month due to rising material costs).  KY3
  • After 25 years as Incredible Pizza (now Incredible Food and Fun), the family entertainment center updated its menu and facility to attract a new generation. A ribbon cutting was held on April 29 at the flagship store on Campbell and Woodland Street, and future renovations are planned for other sites.  Springfield Daily Citizen

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Missouri State University will honor 2,625 graduates in three commencement ceremonies tomorrow at Great Southern Bank Arena as each event features a student keynote speaker. Doors open 90 minutes before the ceremonies and a clear-bag policy applies.  Springfield Daily Citizen
  • Today, KY3 meteorologists taught hundreds of students weather experiments at Route 66 Stadium ahead of the matinee Springfield Cardinals game against the Corpus Christi Hooks. The session featured hands-on displays — including a fog machine and Coke-Mentos reaction — that brought weather lessons to life.  KY3
  • Evangel University will restructure its online learning program by integrating it with its College of Arts and Sciences for the 2026-27 school year in Springfield. The change will cut some jobs (including two positions and unfilled vacancies) while offering students more class options.  Springfield Daily Citizen

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Area fire departments in the Ozarks (including Ebenezer and Logan-Rogersville) are adjusting operations as fuel prices climb. They reduce travel and use smaller vehicles while relying on reserve funds to keep services running safely.  KY3

HEALTH NEWS

  • KY3’s Jackie Garrity and Mercy physician assistant Cindy Griessel (health experts) advise Springfield residents to protect skin from summer sun damage and tick bites as temperatures rise today, offering practical guidance for safe outdoor activities.  KY3
  • Community Blood Center of the Ozarks is partnering with four area attractions to offer free passes for donors giving blood in May and June. Donors receive a Give & Go Fun Pass valued at over $245 that includes bowling at Andy B’s, admission at Fritz’s Adventure, and a free T-shirt, with donations accepted at mobile drives and centers in Springfield and nearby areas.  KY3
  • Mid-America Transplant and Valkyrie UAS Solutions are testing a drone corridor to fly blood samples between Springfield and St. Louis, with operations set to begin by late summer. The operators said they carry liability insurance (a common $1M baseline) that meets industry standards for medical transport.  KY3
