COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Students in the Architecture Design-Build Studio at Drury University hosted an open house and ribbon cutting ceremony on May 5 to debut the Grant Beach Giving Hub—a community refrigerator and bus stop designed to address food insecurity in Grant Beach. The event took place at The Fairbanks on North Broadway Avenue in Springfield with support from several local groups.  KY3
  • Sunny, a five-year-old Sun Conyer who had never flown outside, flew off when a loud noise startled him near Danielle Farnsworth's Ozark home—community sightings on the Lost and Found page helped locate him the next day. Farnsworth recovered the bird using her truck alarm sound to keep him from flying further.  KY3

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A motorcyclist from Branson died on May 3 after being hurt in a March 28 crash on South Fort Ave when his 2004 Honda collided with a 2022 Chevy Equinox driven by a Springfield man—Richard Weter—while police continue to investigate.  Springfield Daily Citizen

CRIME NEWS

  • Springfield woman Tarrin Dicks, 22, entered an Alford plea to two counts of second-degree murder in February 2024 for the deaths of Springfield residents Trevin Dicks, 21, and Reggie Carey, 19 + her sentencing is set for June.  OzarksFirst.com

CULTURE NEWS

  • On Monday night, May 5th, Ozark man Dave Kendall competed on KY3's +Wheel of Fortune+ at 6:30 p.m. in search of big prizes; his appearance highlighted the game show's lasting appeal.  KY3

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The state of Missouri has set new rules for cattle and swine shows in early 2025 that require each animal to have official identification and be checked healthy by a veterinarian—exhibitors may need to get multiple inspections during the year as the fair season nears.  KY3
  • State senators approved a $30 million earmark for a new regional convention center complex in Springfield, which must be matched by local funds and awaits final review by the legislature and governor. City officials say the project could cost over $100 million and create new jobs — a move that is still in the planning stage.  Springfield Daily Citizen

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Last Monday, Springfield City Council held a public hearing on a bill to let the Stillwell Columns Apartments on Campbell Ave be updated into the Pinnacle on the Park Apartments. If approved, developers will renovate 142 affordable units with new kitchens, bathrooms, and flooring (including 5% ADA and 2% hearing/seeing impaired units) and plan to start work next month with a finish in 12 to 18 months (residents will be moved with little disruption).  KY3
