- ➤ Today at 7 p.m., Headline Productions starts a free concert series at Park Central Square with a show by Sean Clavin & The Dirty Truth (no food trucks or vendors will be present) to bring folks downtown for music and local shopping. The concerts will run nearly every Saturday from May through September, except June 14 and Aug. 9 when the square hosts other special events. Springfield Daily Citizen
- ➤ Thousands in Springfield are still without power as nearly 300 utility workers work 16-hour shifts today to fix downed lines and poles due to severe storm damage. ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ The Springfield Fire Department responded to a house fire around 4:00 a.m. Friday on the 1200 block of West Chase Street — three residents who were outside escaped with minor smoke inhalation as firefighters quickly controlled the blaze and the American Red Cross began assisting while investigators probe the cause. - ➤ A 24-year-old motorcyclist (not wearing a helmet) died after hitting a marked downed tree (cones placed after strong winds) on West Madison Street at 2:30 a.m. on May 1 when trees fell on Springfield roadways on April 29. Springfield News-Leader
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Greene County prosecutors charged Kenneth John Lowry with a class D felony for stealing the 5-foot bronze statue 'Summer Dancer' from Dominion Gardens on Historic Walnut Street at around 6 a.m. on Aug. 28, 2024 — he allegedly used tools found in his vehicle to cut the statue and hide parts in a crawl space, which led authorities to recover and repair it — according to charging documents. - ➤ The Springfield Regional Arts Council is hosting Artsfest on Historic Walnut Street today — the event will run until tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. with over 100 artists, food, and live performances. Tickets cost $5, and children 5 and under are free. Springfield Daily Citizen
