COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Teresa Ross, one of Eden Village I’s first unsheltered residents, died on April 28 at a Marshfield nursing home at 70. Community coordinator Kelbi Schlueter said plans will be made soon to hold a celebration of life—fitting for a woman known for her spunky spirit and giving nature.  Springfield Daily Citizen
  • Missouri Baptist Disaster Relief team set up a food truck at the Red Cross office on the 1400 block of West Bypass at Division Street to offer a hot meal for those still without power after Tuesday's storms. The team served lunch earlier and served dinner on Thursday night until 7 p.m. while planning to continue meal service until power is restored.  KY3
  • Springfield’s Convoy of Hope is giving out groceries and water for citizens affected by Tuesday’s storms. The supplies will be available today at Central Assembly of God Church from 10 a.m. through 2 p.m. — they will continue until the stock runs out.  OzarksFirst.com

CRIME NEWS

  • John Kenneth Carlson, 50, of Springfield, was sentenced to four years in prison by a Greene County Circuit Court judge on April 28 after his eighth DWI conviction, which came after he crashed his motorcycle while driving drunk in west Springfield on October 21 — tests showed his blood alcohol level was .258%.  Springfield Daily Citizen
  • The Springfield Police Department issued an Endangered Person Advisory for 20-year-old Madison Marie Muse who disappeared on April 28 around 9 p.m. — she was last seen with two men and her family remains concerned as police search for her.  KY3

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Today, after the April 29 storms caused tree damage, Springfield Environmental Services is waiving brush disposal fees and scaling up operations at the Yardwaste Recycling Center and Noble Hill Sanitary Landfill to help residents and businesses dispose of debris. The facilities will be open from 8 a.m. — 5 p.m. through Monday May 5 and will accept small residential loads at the recycling center and larger debris at the burn site.  KY3

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Homeowners in Greene County whose homes became uninhabitable from the April 29 storm may be eligible for property tax relief — the assessor’s office will adjust taxable values while repairs continue if proper documentation is submitted. Affected residents should file the Destroyed Residential Property Claim Form and update their personal property assessment by May 9.  Springfield News-Leader
