  • City Utilities, Kiwanis and other local groups cut the ribbon on the new accessible playground called The Hatch at Fellows Lake Miller Park on April 18 — families gathered as children enjoyed the new equipment.  Springfield News-Leader

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Todric McGee, a 21-year-old Missouri State football safety, was accidentally shot Friday—he died Saturday morning at the hospital as teammates and coaches mourned his loss while police investigated the incident.  OzarksFirst.com
  • A tree fell on a trailer home in southwest Springfield on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. along West Battlefield Road near Grizzly Industrial as heavy storms brought rain, lightning, and winds and a woman with her three dogs were inside but no one was injured.  KY3

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Goldie Winsted, a Springfield AmeriCorps volunteer who began work with FEMA in February, was sent home early on April 15 when funding cuts forced thousands of young volunteers out of the program. She was set to serve until November with provided housing, meals and health benefits — a change that highlights the broad impact of the new cost-cutting measures.  KY3
