COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ KY3 has hired veteran anchor Emily Pritchard as its newest co-anchor; she will appear on noon and 6 p.m. newscasts over the coming weeks before her official start on July 28—she replaces longtime host Lisa Rose, whose final newscast is on July 25. Pritchard, a Missouri native with over fifteen years in journalism, said she is excited to return home and share her expertise. KY3
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ On April 15, police responded to a well-being check at a north Springfield apartment on N. Clifton Ave and discovered that 21-year-olds Andrew Calton and Katrina Dotson were found dead after Calton fatally shot Dotson then took his own life—four juveniles present were unharmed. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Jin J. X, a Springfield musician from Chicago, released a new album titled 'The Barefoot, Pregnant, Neckbeard, Marital Bed, String Band' that he calls an 'Afrofuturist odyssey' blending folk-Americana with country music. He will hold a Cowboy Night album release party at The Creamery Arts Center on April 26 at 7 p.m. — tickets cost $10 and a trio of local musicians will join him. Springfield Daily Citizen

- ➤ The Springfield-born Build My Future event returned to the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds on Wednesday with 3,300 students from more than 100 schools exploring career paths in architecture, construction and engineering. Board member Megan Herzog said the event helped break myths about skilled trades and address the need for new workers—after many older workers retired. KY3
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Humane World for Animals listed 26 Missouri dog breeders for violations—14 of which are in southwest Missouri and include repeated issues like dodging inspections and failing to care for animals properly. A state representative filed HB 185 that will tighten regulations on commercial breeders—making repeated violations a class A misdemeanor and restricting pet shops from buying animals from noncompliant breeders. - ➤ Finalists for the Springfield city manager role participated in virtual town halls on Tuesday, April 15 to answer questions about social challenges, development issues and economic growth while they await further interviews with stakeholders—city officials will choose a new manager before the April 21 meeting as the mayor elect prepares to be sworn in. The finalists include David Cameron, Bob Cowell and Brian Weiler, and the city has been led by an interim manager since January. Springfield Daily Citizen
- ➤ The Missouri Senate Appropriations Committee — led by state Sen. Lincoln Hough — added nearly $300M to public school funding and restored $8M for a Springfield footbridge project cut by the House. The committee finished amending nine of 13 bills on Tuesday and will complete revised bills for debate starting April 29. Springfield News-Leader

- ➤ The Centers for Disease Control reports alcohol abuse disorder takes 178,000 lives each year—April is Alcohol Awareness Month and experts are reviewing addiction and recovery options.
