COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Community Partnership of the Ozarks announced a new deal with the Darr Family Foundation to open an early childhood hub at the O’Reilly Center for Hope, which will help families with young children by offering parent classes, childcare, and other support. The hub, located in the former Pepperdine Elementary School, will open in summer—offering a one-stop resource for family services.  KY3
  • Two Heeler mixes were found outside Cracker Barrel on north Glenstone after they were possibly dumped from a passing car, shelter coordinator Josh Doss said. They are in good condition—clean coats and proper weight—but lack collars, tags, and chips; anyone who recognizes them should contact animal control.  KY3

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Arborist Dick Carson is moving forward on his 14-acre Carson’s Collection nursery on East Sunshine Street after recovering from a summer 2024 health scare. Utilities are connected—water and electricity are active—and Carson has cleared county rezoning while paved roads and an irrigation system will be built in the spring before the public opening.  Springfield Daily Citizen

CRIME NEWS

  • Missouri State University leaders warned of auto thefts after a Kia and a Hyundai were stolen from campus parking lots in the past two weeks—national trends show vehicles built from 2012 to 2021 face higher risks from ignition vulnerabilities, so drivers are urged to lock doors, park in well-lit areas, and use free steering wheel locks.  KY3

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Springfield Public Schools addressed bullying prevention in an interview with KY3’s Jackie Garrity and school counseling director Allison Roffords, saying the district will implement new counseling measures—designed to better support students.  KY3

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Missouri’s spring turkey hunting season will start on April 21 and comes as turkey numbers have fallen below 400,000 after years of conservation efforts—habitat loss is a key factor behind the drop. The Missouri Department of Conservation advises local landowners to maintain diverse areas such as wooded regions and open land to benefit both wildlife and livestock.  KY3

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City Council will consider a $23,786,595 bid from Emery Sapp and Sons Inc.—the lowest of four bids—to fund a landfill expansion project that will add 7 to 9 years of waste disposal capacity and upgrade systems on 22 acres at Noble Hill Sanitary Landfill. The project, permitted in 2019, will be voted on April 21 before new officials are sworn in.  Springfield Daily Citizen

HEALTH NEWS

  • Between April 7-11, health inspectors reviewed several Springfield restaurants and found no priority violations—minor issues like cleaning lapses and storage corrections were noted and fixed on site.  OzarksFirst.com
