COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Saturday morning, hundreds of volunteers joined Clean Green Springfield events by cleaning streets along Grand Street and Kansas Expressway, cleaning streams at the Springfield Art Museum and Fassnight Park, and working on neighborhood cleanups at Meador Park. Organizers, who started the initiative in 2021, said volunteers logged nearly 8,000 hours and collected over 55 tons of litter—future cleanups are planned for select Saturdays. KY3
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A 42-year-old Springfield man died at the scene when his motorcycle went off the road on Route YY (also known as E. Division Street) around 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon and hit an embankment, despite wearing a helmet. KY3
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Investigators said Julie Kudrna (52) was shot and killed by her husband Jeremy Kudrna before he turned the gun on himself Friday. KY3
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ David Richards returns as dean of Missouri State Libraries and will start on July 14. He spent 19 years at MSU launching the Rare Wine, Rare Books event and later led a cost-saving program at UNO—bringing a student-focused approach to his new role. Springfield News-Leader
- ➤ Six Springfield Public Schools seniors earned their wings after graduating from the inaugural Fly SPS class this week at the Springfield-Branson National Airport. They spent half their school day at the airport learning about aviation careers with flight simulators—several will continue their education in aviation. KY3
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Springfield Mayor Ken McClure shared a farewell message in a video as he prepares to leave office on April 21—he served since 2017 and said it was the honor of his lifetime to serve Springfield. His successor, Jeff Schrag, defeated former city councilmember Mary Collette in the recent election. KY3
REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ Data from Realtor.com showed that the median home in Greene County sold for $248,675 in January — an increase of 5.2% from December’s $236,308. Single-family homes rose 2.5% while condominium prices dropped 13.8%, and six single-family homes sold for at least $1 million. Springfield News-Leader
