CULTURE NEWS

  • Central High School's Kilties, the nation's first all-girl Scottish drum and bugle corps, will celebrate 100 years this winter with events including a history walk Friday (5:30–7 p.m.) at the Commons, a pancake breakfast Saturday (8–10 a.m.) at The Elks Lodge, and more on Saturday and Sunday.  Springfield Daily Citizen

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Missouri lawmakers including Reps. Fogle, Hein, and Stinnett discussed public school funding and MoScholars changes at a forum held April 9 at Glendale High School in Springfield (about 150 locals attended), highlighting key budget challenges.  Springfield Daily Citizen
  • On Tuesday, Apr. 7, voters in Logan-Rogersville R-8 School District approved a $24 million bond for projects including new ag center at the high school (300 N. Missouri Blvd in Rogersville) and classroom improvements; work will begin on renovations at an upper elementary building to be ready by August.  Springfield Daily Citizen

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City crews in Ozark finished repairs on the Mill Pond Bridge after erosion was observed Friday, following a report from a local kayaker. Engineers determined that tree growth in the concrete cracks caused the damage and worked with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (and FEMA) to meet safety standards.  KY3

HEALTH NEWS

  • Havaheart Rescue is partnering with the Springfield Animal Advocacy Foundation Spay and Neuter Clinic to expand low-cost pet care using a $25,000 grant. Families in need can find affordable spay, neuter, and basic services by checking the organizations’ websites for details.  KY3

  • The high school sports spring season in the Ozarks reached its midway point yesterday when KY3’s Chad Plein & Ozarks Sports Zone’s Chris Parker reviewed current standings. The update marks a key moment as teams prepare for the season’s second half.  KY3
