- ➤ Sam’s Club in Springfield awarded a $2,000 grant to support the Girl Scouts Day of Caring: Camp Renewal Project at Camp Finbrooke in Rogersville (part of the United Way of the Ozarks event). The funds will be used to improve the camp’s facilities and nearly 150 volunteers (local helpers) will work on the project scheduled for June 26. OzarksFirst.com

- ➤ Springfield will host two shopping events this Saturday—Women's Day Downtown will celebrate over 70 women-owned businesses with special deals and a prize wheel spin at Brunch Box from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Swapaplooza will offer a free community sale featuring over 75 vendors at the BarnHouse Event Center parking lot from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Springfield News-Leader
- ➤ Chef Jesus 'Chuy' Garcia and his wife Judith Martinez-Garcia opened Show Me Chuy (at 1410 E. Republic Road) on April 9; the restaurant serves Italian and Mexican fusion dishes like chicken piccata and pork chops with mango pico de gallo. Locals view it as a fresh dining spot for Springfield. - ➤ A Springfield woman, Tammy Lee Spriggs, was charged with felony hit-and-run after she allegedly struck a skateboarder on May 4 at Patton and Walnut Street and fled her vehicle — officers later found a blood alcohol reading of .083% and she is scheduled to appear in court in May. OzarksFirst.com
