COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Springfield will host the Go Blue Kickoff event for child abuse prevention at 9 a.m. April 9 at the Greene County Family Justice Center (1418 E. Pythian St.) as Mayor Jeff Schrag will issue a proclamation and families will share support stories.  Springfield News-Leader
  • The new Chadwick Flyer Bridge connected trail sections across Highway 65 in Ozark yesterday, offering pedestrians a safer route and enhanced regional trail access. Temporary fencing is in place and crews will complete final elements in the coming weeks (including angled panels and permanent railing).  Springfield News-Leader

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics showed that businesses added workers at their slowest pace since 2011, but the Ozark economy stayed strong as key sectors kept adding jobs according to the Missouri Jobs Center.  KY3

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • According to World Atlas, Table Rock Lake is one of the top five places in Missouri to spot rattlesnakes — especially the Western Pygmy Rattlesnake seen near lake and river edges. Experts advise visitors to stay calm and slowly move away if they hear a rattle.  KY3

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City Utilities reminds Springfield residents to call 811 for free underground utility marking before spring digging projects, as Missouri law requires marking three working days before excavation; the notice also explains how to spot a natural gas leak.  Springfield News-Leader
  • The Missouri House cut $8 million from naloxone funding, reducing free doses for first responders while senators work to restore the funds before May 8. Critics warn the move might lead to more overdose deaths amid efforts to balance a $50 billion budget.  KY3
