  • A Springfield family has reunited with its lost cat after weeks of searching when the pet got away while being cared for by a babysitter.  KY3

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Tuesday morning, the Springfield Fire Department responded to a fire at an apartment complex on 937 E Elm Street — next to the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity house, where the blaze started in a second-floor unit; firefighters quickly contained the fire with no injuries while the cause remains under investigation.  KY3
  • Larry Flett, 62, a city worker, died when his articulated dump truck overturned and caught fire at the Noble Hill Sanitary Landfill Monday — the site is closed through Wednesday as the Department of Environmental Services reviews the incident.  OzarksFirst.com

ECONOMY NEWS

  • On Tuesday morning, gasoline prices in the Ozarks spiked when some stations charged about $2.99 per gallon—up by as much as 40 cents—due to the switch to a spring-summer blend and rising wholesale costs (AAA stated the national average was $3.13 while Missouri and Arkansas prices were slightly lower).  KY3

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Candidates for Ozark school board discussed teacher pay, student safety, and school choice at a PTA forum on Monday — over 50 local community members, including Ozark Mayor Don Currence, attended to ask questions. Incumbent Sarah Adams Orr and first-time candidates Wade Wheeler and Rae-Ann Wade are vying for two open seats in the April 8 election while promising to advocate for the district in Jefferson City.  Springfield News-Leader

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Since 2023, Greene County improved its ex parte court process by letting one judge handle all protection order cases and making forms available online so victims can get help faster. Support workers praise the change for making court hearings smoother and safer for victims—helping them understand the process better.  Springfield Daily Citizen
  • United Springfield Steering Committee endorses Jeff Schrag for Mayor—Heather Hardinger for General Seat A, Matt Simpson for Zone 4, Monica Horton for Zone 1, and Craig Hosmer for General Seat B after interviews in December and January. The committee urges citizens to submit election letters by noon on April 3 for consideration before the April 8 vote.  Springfield Daily Citizen
