CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Artist Christine Schilling is creating a mosaic mural (14-by-10 ft) from donated mugs that honors the Mother Road and Springfield's role as its birthplace; it will be installed at the Route 66 Birthplace Plaza downtown next month. KY3
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Springfield Public Schools approved a $1.1 million bid to renovate Lafayette Park’s football field and track — the improvements will be completed before Reed Middle School opens to serve students and residents. KY3
- ➤ Ozark High School celebrated Tuesday night the completion of renovations to its baseball field. The facility features artificial turf, fencing, and a backstop wall and has been named Mike Essick Field — a tribute to the longtime coach funded by bond money approved in 2022. KY3
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Springfield lawns that were green turned yellow after sudden temperature swings earlier this month. Experts advise homeowners to trim damaged tips, fertilize and water the lawns (for recovery) to help them bounce back. KY3
- ➤ The Dickerson Park Zoo euthanized its 12-year-old Malayan tiger, Cinta, Monday, March 23 after vets discovered an irremovable tumor in its abdomen. The tiger arrived a year ago from San Diego as part of the Special Survival Plan. Springfield News-Leader
