COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Scouts from the Scouting for Food program placed door hangers on Springfield homes this past weekend as part of a donation drive by Ozarks Food Harvest and the Ozarks Trail Council, asking residents to leave a bag of non-perishable food by 8 a.m. on their porch and they will return on March 29 for more donations—donors may also drop off protein-rich items at centers on South Eastgate and North Cedarbrook with set hours.  KY3

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Springfield Police Department responded to a two-vehicle crash near the intersection of Fremont and Buena Vista Street on Saturday, March 22 at 3:01 p.m.—where David Rodgers, 37, died when his Ford Mustang entered the wrong lane and struck Alyssa Loveland’s 2022 Kia Telluride, leaving her seriously injured.  Springfield Daily Citizen

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Starting Tuesday, March 25—candidates for Springfield City Council, school board and Ozark mayor will share their ideas in brief interviews on KSMU Ozarks Public Radio and online. The nonpartisan Informed Voter Coalition partnered with local media to help voters learn directly about the upcoming April 8 election.  Springfield News-Leader
  • The Springfield-Ozarks chapter of Missouri Jobs With Justice is urging City Council to limit campaign donations to $2,000 to reduce big donor influence. The group reported that donations over this limit made up about 33% of total funds in the 2023 municipal election and plans to push for an ordinance in July—engaging community groups for support.  Springfield News-Leader

SPORTS NEWS

  • Logan-Rogersville ended its state tournament run at Mizzou Arena as both boys and girls teams won third-place games after Friday's semifinal losses— the boys beat Potosi 54-36 and the girls won 60-58 against MICDS. The Wildcats finished the season with a 28-4 record and strong play from both seniors and underclassmen.  Springfield Daily Citizen
  • Missouri State lost a close 78-71 game to Minnesota at Great Southern Bank Arena in Springfield on Jan 24, marking the first home loss of the season and ending the careers of four seniors. The team finished with a 26-9 record while Minnesota advanced to the WBIT quarterfinals.  Springfield Daily Citizen
