- ➤ During March, known as Developmental Disability Awareness Month, people with disabilities in Springfield—like Gabe Siemens at Chuck E. Cheese and Joseph Giordano who runs his bag brand at Upside Down Mercantile—show their talents and help change old ideas about work. Programs from Arc of the Ozarks help many get good jobs and remind the community that everyone can contribute. Springfield News-Leader
- ➤ The City of Springfield kicked off its Clean Green initiative yesterday to celebrate five years of volunteer cleanups and over 8,000 hours of work removing litter from local areas. Mayor Ken McClure set a challenge for residents as the City plans a series of cleanup events on select Saturdays in April and May. KY3
- ➤ Kimbrough Avenue and Benton Avenue were once separate roads until a bridge was built before July 1928 to ease heavy train crossings—when the roads joined, a small connection was named Memorial Plaza after a World War II Marine memorial once stood there. - ➤ MoDOT announced at a recent meeting that work on the Sunshine Street bridge has been delayed without a new completion date, leaving food truck park owners who have been here over a year with added uncertainty—worrying that fewer customers may visit during construction. The agency said engineers will keep one lane open from the bridge to Kansas—ensuring the businesses remain accessible. KY3

- ➤ Two people were charged with first-degree endangering the welfare of a child—Samantha Murphy and Connor Johnson face charges after a loaded gun was found in a 4-year-old student’s backpack at Mallory Early Childhood in Springfield in June 2024. KY3
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Ilana Preuss of Recast City LLC said small-scale makers would help bring new energy to downtown Springfield by opening local shops in the oldest part of the city. The Springfield Business Development Corporation meeting on March 13—attended by about 440 people—highlighted plans including Keep Supply’s move downtown and a change to the Ozarks Regional Economic Partnership. - ➤ Springfield began a project on Monday to resurface 16 miles of roadways on Grand Street, Campbell Avenue and Republic Road. The $4 million milling overlay will finish by the end of May—businesses will remain open during work. OzarksFirst.com
