  • Crunch Fitness submitted plans on March 4, 2026 for renovations at the former Gordmans property (3303 S. Campbell Ave.) on South Campbell Avenue, where the west side will be demolished and the building updated with new locker rooms, bathrooms, showers, tanning booths and HydroMassage equipment.  Springfield Daily Citizen

CULTURE NEWS

  • Springfield artist Kaycie Surrell helped create the set for the film 'Sinners', which is nominated for 16 Oscars, by recreating accurate 1932 Mississippi Delta details. The film heads to the Oscars on Sunday (Mar. 15) on ABC, highlighting her talent and local creativity.  Springfield Daily Citizen

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Pipkin Middle School’s teachers previewed the new classrooms Friday at the site on Campbell and Division — the 114,750 sqft facility will house 550 students and replace the old building, set to open next school year after a fast 480-day construction.  Springfield Daily Citizen
  • A Missouri budget proposal will restrict access to the free Parents as Teachers home-visit service when children join public preschool programs, forcing families to choose between early intervention and preschool. Advocates say lawmakers should reconsider this change (which may hinder timely support for child development).  KY3

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Silver Dollar City Resort held its crowning ceremony on Friday, Mar. 13 as crews lifted the final rooftop and guests signed a commemorative book. The resort is set to open in 2027.  Springfield News-Leader
  • On Friday, Mar. 13, data from Zumper showed that Springfield apartment prices increased 3% from February's median of $1,150, with a typical listing at $1,186. One-bedroom rents rose 1% while two-bedroom rates remained near $1,095 over the past month.  Springfield News-Leader

SPORTS NEWS

  • Louisiana Tech Bulldogs will face Missouri State Bears in the CUSA Tournament Friday at 11:30 p.m. CST on CBS Sports Network in Huntsville. The teams meet for a third time after the Bulldogs last won 72-70.  KY3
  • KY3's Chad Plein and Chris Parker of the Ozarks Sports Zone broke down local high school basketball action and the Bears' March Madness run. Their report highlighted the busy state hoops scene across the Ozarks.  KY3
  • Strafford advanced to the state semifinals with a 66-54 win over Nevada at Nixa High School on Friday, as sophomores Kinley Larsen (32 points), Trista VanHorn, and Blair Bough stepped up in the absence of injured senior captain Elsie Larsen.  Springfield Daily Citizen
  • Republic junior Keiran Govan received offers from major Power 4 programs after Iowa State’s interest unlocked offers from Alabama, Tennessee & Kentucky. He plans to narrow his choices and commit by the end of July.  Springfield Daily Citizen
