- ➤ The former Robberson School was bought by nonprofit Elevate Lives for $500,000 and will be turned into a community resource center at 1100 E. Kearney—local groups like Living Adventure and Road to Damascus will offer affordable housing, job skills training, youth programs, and recovery services. Springfield Public Schools declared the building surplus after moving students to Boyd Elementary, paving the way for these plans. KSMU
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A man from Sparta was found guilty of second-degree murder for shooting his nephew when he went on his property near Mansfield to steal a trailer—and he will be sentenced on April 24. KY3
- ➤ Bradley James Edmonds, a 32-year-old Springfield man, pleaded guilty to robbery, arson, stealing, trespassing and resisting arrest and was sentenced on March 12 by Greene County Judge Todd Myers to 15 years in prison—his crimes include an armed robbery at a Casey’s store and starting a house fire. - ➤ Springfield Public Schools has named Debra Stewart to lead Williams Elementary and Angie Valchev to head Pittman Elementary — both moves aim to support student success. - ➤ City crews will begin repaving 16 miles of Springfield streets on Monday as part of a pavement maintenance plan—Blevins Asphalt will give property owners 48 hours notice while the $3.8 million project uses state and local funds. KSMU
- ➤ Springfield City Council passed a resolution urging residents to register their vehicles and pay overdue taxes to ensure fairness for law-abiding citizens. Officials said nearly 47% of vehicles are unregistered and about $3.8 million in taxes are delinquent—noncompliance may lead to vehicle impoundment after warnings. Springfield Daily Citizen
