COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Residents voiced input on Tuesday night about recycling improvements as the county reviews scheduling and collection rules. Two meetings are planned for more feedback: Monday, March 16, 6-8 p.m. at the Schweitzer Brentwood Branch Library (2214 S. Brentwood Blvd.) and Tuesday, March 24, 6-8 p.m. at the Botanical Center. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The American Revolution Experience exhibit invites local visitors to explore interactive displays and artifacts that show America’s founding. The exhibition opens now at a local museum (offering a hands on look at history). KY3
- ➤ Gillioz Theatre is asking the community to donate historic photos, ticket stubs and memorabilia to rebuild its archives before the centennial, accepting items by mail or drop off at 325 Park Central East. Contributors may be honored in upcoming commemorative projects. Springfield News-Leader
- ➤ Due to construction on Boonville Avenue, the 43rd Springfield St. Patrick's Day Parade will change its route starting at 2 p.m. on March 14 from South Avenue and Elm Street to Park Central Square, ending at Jefferson Avenue with Crystal Quade (new executive director) as grand marshal. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Willard teachers are now offered a chance to earn a master’s degree while working as the district approved an agreement with Evangel University on March 2. The new program will send cohorts of up to 10 educators with tuition covered while teachers cover fees and textbooks. Springfield Daily Citizen
- ➤ Today at 10:30 a.m. in the Information Commons, Ozarks Technical Community College’s Board of Trustees will consider raising tuition by $4 to $7 per credit hour and increasing fees for new and returning students, + review a construction bid to add 200 parking spaces ahead of the 2026-27 school year. - ➤ Springfield Public Schools named Sydney Dean as Twain Elementary’s new principal and Anne Longwell as Fremont Elementary’s next leader on March 9. Their appointments will take effect on July 1 if approved by the school board. Springfield News-Leader
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Starting Monday, Mar. 16, property owners can register to replace invasive Bradford Pears with a free native tree offered by the Missouri Department of Conservation. Registration ends Thursday, Apr. 16, and tree pickup is scheduled for Tuesday, Apr. 21. KY3
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ USDA officials proposed new regulations for puppy mills yesterday in Springfield — updating laws that have remained unchanged since the 1990s. KY3
- ➤ The Springfield Police Department is hosting free neighborhood watch training on March 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the South District Station (2620 E. Battlefield Road). Residents must reserve a seat online and live within city limits. KY3
- ➤ City Utilities reminds customers to report electric outages during spring storm season so repair crews can respond quickly and safely. Residents can use MyAccount (or call the outage line) to report issues and receive updates. KY3
