COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Seniors Helping Seniors will host an informational caregiving event on Friday, March 6 from 9:00–11:00 a.m. at The Library Center on South Campbell in Springfield, inviting community members interested in caregiver roles to learn more about opportunities.  Springfield Daily Citizen
  • CASA of Southwest Missouri is seeking volunteers to advocate for foster children who have been abused and neglected in Greene, Christian, and Taney counties while providing court support; training coordinator Shelby Blakley said volunteers will help give these children a strong voice in legal proceedings.  KY3

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Thai Express on West Republic Road filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, allowing owner Patrick Nett to reorganize estimated liabilities between $100,000 and $500,000 while keeping the restaurant open. The filing follows a recent Chapter 7 filing.  KY3

CULTURE NEWS

  • Winter Jam 2026 will bring leading Christian music acts including Chris Tomlin, Matthew West and Katy Nichole to Springfield on March 20 at Great Southern Bank Arena at 7 p.m. The event uses a donation model (15-dollar admission) and offers Jam Nation perks.  Springfield News-Leader
  • The new owner of the downtown building, David Pere of FMTM LLC, faces community backlash after covering a well-known mural honoring Robert E. Smith and said he will relocate the piece + start a new veterans mural by the end of the month.  KY3

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City Utilities urges residents to prepare power outage safety kits with portable phone chargers, non-perishable food, water, first aid supplies and blankets during Severe Weather Preparedness Week. Residents using life-support equipment are advised to contact their health care provider and follow safety guidelines when encountering downed lines.  KY3

HEALTH NEWS

  • Breast Cancer Foundation of the Ozarks’ support group meets every other Thursday in Springfield to offer breast cancer patients and survivors a safe place to share and learn during their journey. Meetings are held in person and via Zoom (for those needing virtual access) to help keep everyone connected.  KY3
  • Residents are reminded to test smoke and carbon monoxide detectors on Sunday, when daylight saving time begins — because many detectors fail from dead batteries, said Logan-Rogersville Fire Protection District Chief Richard Stirts; he also advised families to develop a fire escape plan.  KY3
  • Missouri Ozarks Community Health in Ava launched its drug rehab program last year with $1.1 million in federal funding to ease opiate withdrawal and offer counseling. The clinic is now planning to expand treatment space & support more patients.  KY3
  • Throughout March and April, the Community Blood Center of the Ozarks will reward donors with an Ozarks Adventure Pass (including vouchers worth over $195 and a limited-edition Route 56 T-shirt) when donations are made at mobile drives or centers in Springfield, Joplin, Springdale, and Bentonville.  KY3
