COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Springfield Hy-Vee stores are holding two fundraisers to support families of fallen Christian County deputies. The all-you-can-eat breakfast runs Saturday, 8-11 a.m., and $4 meal deals are offered Monday at locations (1720 W. Battlefield Road and 2150 E. Sunshine St.), with donations accepted at checkout.  Springfield News-Leader
  • The Springfield Council of Churches distributed over 2,500 coats to local children through its annual Coats for Kids Campaign (leaving a surplus for next winter), and families can donate additional coats later in the fall (supporting next season’s efforts).  KY3

CULTURE NEWS

  • A new marker has been dedicated at historic Kentwood Hall (built in 1926 along Route 66 and visited by presidents and entertainers) as part of the African-American Heritage Trail in Springfield. Trail organizer H. Wes Pratt said the marker supports cultural awareness and preserves local history.  KY3
  • Springfield Ballet announced today that Kyler Dibben is the new executive director and that Maria Velázquez and José Soares will serve as co-artistic directors for its 50th season. The leadership change aims to enhance community engagement and boost pre-professional training.  Springfield News-Leader

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Missouri Department of Higher Education and Workforce Development offers a Fast Track Grant program that pays tuition and fees for adults returning to school for careers in high demand. Ozarks Technical Community College is one of over 100 institutions in the program, which has helped more than 3,000 students since 2018.  KY3

  • KY3 shared details on new tax time changes and rising energy costs that could affect Springfield consumers' bills. The report provides insights on how these changes will impact households and encourages residents to plan ahead.  KY3

HEALTH NEWS

  • Springfield-Greene County health officials launched a new online tool today to explain changing medical guidance on topics such as acetaminophen use during pregnancy and the hepatitis B vaccine. Developed in partnership with Mercy Springfield Communities & CoxHealth, the tool will update as new topics emerge.  Springfield News-Leader

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Broadway Cottage Courtyard, a new housing project in north Springfield, will add 14 middle housing units on one acre; seven homes will be offered around $155,000, and construction foundations will be poured within 90 days (by the Drew Lewis Foundation’s Blue House Project) with eight houses expected by year’s end.  KSMU
