BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Baristas at the Starbucks on S. Glenstone voted (20 to 1) to unionize with Starbucks Workers United on Feb. 11, making it the third local store to join the union. The vote comes as workers seek better pay, proper scheduling, and healthier work conditions. Springfield News-Leader
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The History Museum on the Square in downtown Springfield now hosts Only in Springfield: From Hometown to Headlines, a temporary exhibit celebrating the city’s iconic inventions, news stories, and influential locals (honoring America’s 250th, Route 66’s 100th, and the museum’s 50th anniversaries). The exhibit runs until May 10. KY3
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Wildlife experts report coyotes are entering mating season and may appear near Springfield neighborhoods into March (pet owners are advised to secure outdoor food and use standard leashes on small animals) to reduce risk. KY3
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Rep. Brad Christ proposed a statewide economic plan that lets cities join downtown innovation districts with fast track permits & tax incentives, and the plan will offer funds for public safety and infrastructure with benefits starting Jan. 1 as it moves to committee next week. KY3
- ➤ Queen's Gate 66 is a 20-foot illuminated monument planned near the St. Louis and Glenstone intersection for the Route 66 Centennial, with a public dedication at 11 a.m. Friday, May 1. City council approved $267K in funds for street improvements, and a neighboring property owner provided extra parking for visitors. KSMU

- ➤ The Arc of the Ozarks has expanded its Autism and Neurodevelopmental Center by acquiring a second building from Empower: Abilities to serve more children and reduce wait times in Springfield. Michael Powers said the new space will boost clinical services to meet growing community needs. KY3

- ➤ Residents at Jenny Lind Hall Apartments now have a working elevator after repairs completed last fall and payment issues were resolved Friday & work on the second elevator is set to begin soon downtown. KY3

- ➤ On Thursday, Louisiana Tech edged Missouri State 79-78 in double overtime in Springfield, with Avery Thomas (19 points) and DJ Dudley (four points) leading the win while Kobi Williams posted 24 for Missouri State. KY3
