  • Consumer Reports released its Best Kitchen Brands list during ongoing Presidents’ Day sales, advising consumers to consider appliance age, repair costs and warranties before buying or fixing items. The list includes top-rated options for cooktops, dishwashers, ranges, refrigerators and wall ovens (featuring choices from LG, Bosch and GE).  KY3
  • DICK’S House of Sport will open at Battlefield Mall in 2027. The new store will span over 100,000 sqft and include a climbing wall, golf bays with TrackMan simulators and HitTrax multi-sport cages to offer immersive sports experiences.  Springfield News-Leader

CULTURE NEWS

  • Missouri State University is hosting free Lunar New Year cultural events today and Friday at the fourth floor of Pummill Hall — featuring dances, tea culture, dumpling workshops and tai chi — to help Chinese students celebrate traditions when they cannot go home.  Springfield Daily Citizen

  • Springfield Public Schools recommended keeping Aramark for cafeteria meal preparation because of cost controls + innovation, and the board will vote on Feb. 24 on the contract, a decision that will help maintain job stability for school employees.  Springfield Daily Citizen
  • Beth Sandbothe will be Gray Elementary’s new principal beginning July 1 as announced by Springfield Public Schools. She brings experience as an assistant principal at Disney Elementary and will replace long-time principal Angie Carder.  Springfield News-Leader
  • Yesterday, Bingham Elementary School students received 504 pairs of new shoes and over 1,000 pairs of socks donated by United Way and Reliable Subaru — marking their third giveaway that Principal Adam Meador said supports the community during tough times.  KY3

  • Jenny Lind Hall will soon have a working elevator as contractor TK Elevator prepares to activate it today after receiving payment, with the city set to inspect it immediately.   • Springfield-Greene County Library District will begin a comprehensive study this year to assess maintenance and capital needs for its ten library buildings and identify areas without nearby library access, with the Board set to review findings in late spring.  KY3

  • Missouri beat Texas A&M 86-85 on Wednesday night — Trent Pierce scored 23 points and Shawn Phillips Jr. secured a go-ahead dunk with 17 seconds left, snapping a five-game skid; the team will host Texas Saturday.  KY3
  • Senior Quinn Aldridge was named athlete of the week for the Marshfield girls basketball team because her leadership earned praise from coach Trish Marsh, who said she makes key plays that keep the team together.  KY3
