COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Allison Cash was named as LORE’s first full-time executive director to lead the nonprofit’s mission to strengthen Ozarks regional identity and boost economic vitality beginning early 2026.  Springfield Daily Citizen
  • Texting STOP to suspicious messages may alert scammers to continue contact, so residents are urged to ignore these texts. The Better Business Bureau recommends blocking unknown senders since carriers now flag potential scams automatically.  KY3
  • The Community Foundation of the Ozarks granted $120,000 to improve nature access and outdoor recreation opportunities today at its Springfield headquarters. Fifteen local agencies received awards and the Everyone Outdoors Grant Program doubled its funding from last year to serve central and southern Missouri.  KY3
  • The Springfield-Greene County Library Center will open a memory lab in about a year to help families digitize photos, home movies, audio tapes and more. Larry and Tracey Lipscomb donated $280,000 to fund the project and a recording studio is planned for family interviews (preserving community heritage).  KY3

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Boys & Girls Clubs of Springfield will announce the 2026 Youth of the Year winner tomorrow at their banquet from 6-8 p.m. at the DoubleTree by Hilton Glendalough Convention Center (2431 N. Glenstone Ave.). The winner will earn a $20,000 college scholarship and later compete at the state level.  Springfield News-Leader
  • Republic Branch Library now doubles its space to 22,000 sqft after opening Feb. 2 at 921 N. Lindsey Ave and offers dedicated areas for children, teens, a Business Connect Center, community room and Maker Space with 10 new staff hired.  Springfield News-Leader
  • Missouri State University has renamed its School of Accountancy as the Pendleton Family School of Accountancy after receiving a seven-figure gift from alumnus Dick Pendleton and his three daughters. The donation will support nearly 600 students and 12 faculty members by boosting scholarships and experiential learning initiatives.  KY3

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Warm Monday temperatures spurred MU Extension expert Kelly McGowan to advise locals to begin seed starting for cool-season vegetables (lettuce, greens, broccoli) while they prepare soil for mid-April planting.  KY3

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Victim Center in Springfield states that one in three teens may face dating abuse and urges parents to discuss healthy relationships early (counselors say these talks help spot red flags).  KY3

SPORTS NEWS

  • Steve Boyce retired after 26 years coaching high school swimming—his teams won nine state titles and 27 individual championships at Glendale, Republic, and Ozark. He will attend upcoming swim meets as a fan.  KY3
  • Spencer Robarge, a 23-year-old Kickapoo High grad (and Wichita State alum), is set to begin his PBA Tour rookie season at the Players Championship Feb. 16-22 in Euless, Texas, joining fellow local bowlers to boost Springfield’s representation on the tour.  Springfield Daily Citizen
  • Missouri State head coach Casey Woods is building his FBS program by recruiting local talent from 419 high schools. On Thursday, Marionville star Cash Pomeroy (6-2, 240) committed as a preferred walk-on, adding to a rising roster of hometown players.  Springfield Daily Citizen
  • The Springfield Cardinals will host an exhibition game with the 11-time World Champion St. Louis Cardinals at Hammons Field on Monday, Mar. 23. Fans can secure seats by joining RED Access Membership starting at $115+ tax to gain member perks.  Springfield Daily Citizen
