- ➤ Volunteers completed the Everyone Counts survey on Jan. 28 to record where people slept in Springfield as part of a national effort to count unsheltered residents. Nearly 60 volunteers visited libraries, cold-weather shelters and resource centers while handing out goodie bags with supplies. KY3
- ➤ A Springfield family finally recovered its lost dog Birdie on Wednesday following a 45-day search in local woods; the family described the challenge (as searching for a needle in a haystack) before Birdie was found. KY3

- ➤ Allen Kunkel, associate vice president for economic development at Missouri State, will retire June 30 after nearly 20 years advancing projects in Springfield. He expanded JVIC, IDEA Commons & efactory and served on local boards to strengthen community ties. Springfield News-Leader
- ➤ Ashley Bough has been named the new athletic director for Ozark School District and will lead the athletics department starting in the 2026-2027 school year; she replaces retiring Yancey Little. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Today, the Springfield Citizens’ Advisory Board recommended nearly $24M to expand the Springfield Art Museum and improve parks and trails. The plan—funded by a voter-approved sales tax—sets in motion projects to boost local jobs and economic activity, and will now be considered by City Council for the FY 2027 budget.
