- ➤ KY3’s Billie Brightman is checking Springfield roads after plows cleared main lanes but left side streets with piles of compact snow and ice+making intersections hazardous. Commuters are advised to drive carefully as below-zero temperatures slow the melt. KY3
- ➤ Bitter cold is pushing local homeless shelters toward capacity as nearly all of Victory Mission's 136 beds are filled and Veterans Coming Home Center served over 200 people this winter day. Shelter operators extended their hours to offer warmth, meals, and support for those in need (extended help continues). KY3
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Springfield will host the National Route 66 Centennial Kickoff Celebration from April 30 to May 3 to mark the highway’s 100th anniversary. The three-day event includes NBC’s TODAY Show live at 8 a.m., a dedication at Birthplace Plaza, and a concert at Great Southern Bank Arena + other festivities. KY3
- ➤ Due to weather, the Springfield Symphony postponed its 55th Young People’s Concert from today to March 9 at Juanita K. Hammons Hall. - ➤ Springfield Fire Department reminds residents to stay off frozen ponds after last January's rescue saved a woman and her two dogs from falling through the ice. - ➤ In 2025, Ozarks Milk Depot set a record by collecting 30,388 ounces of donor milk that provided over 91,000 feedings for NICU infants. The drop-off site partnered with local health agencies to support medically fragile newborns. Springfield News-Leader
