COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Springfield Multicultural Festival will take place Jan. 19 at the Oasis Hotel & Convention Center from noon to 4 p.m. This family-friendly event features global music, food sampling, international performances, and a Wellness Village for local health and community resources.  Springfield News-Leader
  • A Greene County resident won a $100,000 top prize on a 'Fat Wallet' Scratchers ticket bought at Break Time on W. Republic Road in Springfield. Lottery officials say players have won over $8.9 million so far, and some prizes remain unclaimed.  KY3
  • KY3's Leigh Moody announced a new feature on Leigh’s Lost & Found Facebook page that helps match lost pets with owners + families in Springfield. The update, introduced on Jan. 14, aims to quickly reconnect pets with their loved ones.  KY3
  • Sam E. Coryell, a local philanthropist and founder of TLC Properties, died Jan. 12 at age 82. His legacy in real estate and support for causes (March of Dimes, the regional opera, and the symphony) lives on as his family plans to honor his memory.  Springfield Daily Citizen

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Farmers and ranchers in Springfield received relief after the Missouri State Tax Commission voted unanimously to keep agricultural land productivity values steady through 2028, helping ease the burden of rising costs and market volatility while the measure awaits general assembly approval.  KY3

HEALTH NEWS

  • Children’s Smile Center will open a larger dental office (112 S. Ridgecrest Ave.) in Nixa before the end of January to boost care from 6,500 to 9,000 Medicaid children across six counties.  Springfield Daily Citizen
  • CoxHealth broke ground on a 133,000 sqft pediatric hospital in Springfield on January 9. The facility, built with St. Louis Children’s Hospital and WashU Medicine, will start offering in-hospital services in March and fully open in summer 2027.  KY3
  • Federal funding cuts have reduced mental health and substance abuse program resources in the Ozarks, with Missouri agencies set to lose an estimated $14.3 million by the end of the year. Local providers Centerstone and A.D.A.P.T are working to adapt to protect patient care.  KY3

  • Valiant Group owner Josh Manning met 45 University Heights residents on Jan. 13 at National Avenue Christian Church to discuss buying Be Kind and Merciful properties at National Avenue and Sunshine Street for a high-end townhome rental project (requiring demolition of dwellings), and he said neighborhood input will shape plans.  Springfield Daily Citizen

  • Evangel's women basketball team checked into the NAIA Top 25 after a 13-1 season under first year head coach Madi Wallace—local standout Heaven Shockley leads the squad on a 12-game winning streak with Ozarks talent supporting the ranking as they face Kansas Wesleyan Saturday, Jan. 17.  Springfield Daily Citizen
  • Former Glendale High defensive end Kellen Lindstrom, who played for Tennessee, has reportedly committed to Missouri State football and is expected to compete for a starting role following defensive end Davon Townley's graduation.   • The Bass Pro Shops Tournament of Champions tips off today in Springfield as Chris Neyenhouse from the Ozarks Sports Zone and Springfield Public Schools Athletics Director Josh Scott preview the action.  KY3
  • Missouri State basketball welcomes senior transfer Antwan Burnett who, after recovering from a hamstring injury, brings physicality and skill to the Bears as they compete in Conference USA.
