COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Community Partnership of the Ozarks is asking local volunteers to join its Every One Counts campaign on Jan. 28-29 as it canvasses streets, shelters, vehicles and abandoned buildings in Greene, Christian + Webster counties to count homelessness and inform future support.  KY3
  • Leigh Moody, an animal advocate in Springfield, is using her Cat-a-lac to trap feral cats for spaying & neutering today. The effort aims to safely manage the local cat population.  KY3
  • The Springfield-Greene County Library held its grand opening for the new Hatch Auditorium on Tuesday in south Springfield and will host events including a 500-seat venue teen silent disco on Friday at 7 p.m., a children’s concert on Saturday, and a jazz band performance on Sunday.  KY3
  • Springfield police advise parents to talk with children about online photo sharing risks (advanced AI can misuse innocent pictures) and recommend limiting posts while noting that legal steps are available to remove explicit images.  KY3

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The free Block Kids Contest will take place on Jan. 17 at Missouri State University's Kemper Hall. Hosted by the National Association of Women in Construction, the event invites kindergarten to sixth-grade students to build a construction project with provided materials & receive a goodie bag.  Springfield News-Leader

FINANCE NEWS

  • Springfield residents can boost their finances in 2026 with On Your Side advice to build emergency funds, increase retirement contributions and consider flexible brokerage accounts. The guide also suggests using bonuses or tax refunds for extra mortgage payments — a strategy to shorten loan terms.  KY3

HEALTH NEWS

  • A Florida resident with measles passed through Springfield-Branson National Airport on Tuesday, Jan. 6 and is no longer contagious, but those at the airport between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. are advised to monitor for symptoms until Jan. 27, per the Springfield-Greene County Health Department.  Springfield News-Leader
